Dr Johannes (David) van Riet
Specialist Anaesthetist – Southern Anaesthetics Group, Perth, Western Australia
Dr van Riet grew up in the picturesque wine region of the Western Cape of South Africa and there he attended the renowned University of Stellenbosch and achieved his basic medical degree in 1995.
By 2000 he had moved to New Zealand and worked in Internal Medicine for 3 years and after experience in a wide range of medical specialties he found his passion for Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia. He completed anaesthetic training between New Zealand and Australia with a special interest in Cardiac Anaesthesia and a fellowship in Aeromedical Retrieval.
Finally by 2008 Dr van Riet settled in beautiful Western Australia with his family.
After having worked in most of the tertiary hospitals in WA he took a consultancy at Rockingham General Hospital and has maintained his balance between private and public medicine by staying active in most of the metropolitan private hospitals.
Professional Interests
Dr van Riet has a professional interest in teaching anaesthetic trainees and is Supervisor of Training for Rockingham General Hospital.
He has a wide range of clinical experience born from his interest in all aspects of anaesthesia and these include Regional Anaesthesia, Airway Management, Obstetric Anaesthesia and Intensive Care.
