All our Anaesthetists are Fellows of The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or equivalent, providing anaesthetic services and holding positions at major teaching hospitals and private hospitals in Perth.

Dr Peter Baumgartner grew up in South Africa and achieved his medical degree from the world renowned University of Cape Town in 1995. He worked as a junior doctor in the Johannesburg area including at Baragwanath Hospital. In 1997 he moved to the UK and spent the next 8 years training in anaesthesia achieving his Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthesia (London) in 2001 and was appointed as a consultant in Warwick, UK in 2005.

During a year of specialist training at Royal Perth Hospital, Dr Baumgartner fell in love with Perth and realised that WA was the place he wanted to raise his young family. He was appointed at Joondalup Health Campus in 2006 and Royal Perth Hospital in 2008. He continues to work across the public and private hospitals in Perth.

Dr Siew Ting Chin completed her medical training in Scotland, UK at the University of Glasgow in 2005. Dr. Siew Ting Chin then furthered her training in New Zealand and completed her fellowship in Anaesthesia in 2015 here in Western Australia. Dr. Chin has since been working as a Consultant Anaesthetist in Joondalup Health Campus with both public and private patients.

Dr Enzor graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine, University of London in 2004. He undertook training in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine in the NHS prior to moving to Australia where he worked in Aeromedical Retrieval medicine for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Western Operations.

Dr Julia Galatis was educated and also completed her initial medical training in South Africa. She moved to Australia in 2000 and initially commenced private practice as a Specialist Anaesthetist at the Joondalup Health Campus. Dr Laura Hamilton graduated from The University Of Sheffield in the UK in 2006. After commencing anaesthesia training in the UK, and six years working for the NHS, Dr Hamilton moved to Western Australia to gain further experience in Intensive Care Medicine at Fremantle Hospital and Aeromedical Retrieval with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, WA. Dr Hamilton completed her anaesthesia training in Western Australia, rotating through all of Perth’s major tertiary teaching hospitals.
During advanced anaesthesia training Dr Hamilton undertook a simulation fellowship at Fiona Stanley and Fremantle Hospitals. Dr Hamilton was awarded Fellowship of Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2022. In addition, she holds a postgraduate diploma in Perioperative Medicine from University College London and has completed the ANZCA educator’s course.

Dr Hamilton has clinical interests in general and regional anaesthesia for all adult surgical specialties. She has particular interests in Perioperative Medicine, crisis management, medical simulation and education, and obstetric anaesthesia. In addition, she maintains an active clinical education role as a member of the simulation faculty at Fiona Stanley and Fremantle Hospitals. Dr Hillyard, graduated from the University of Southampton in the UK, in 2000. After initially training in Internal and Intensive Care Medicine, and gaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2004, he switched careers to Anaesthesia. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2008 and completed Specialist Training, based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London in 2012.

During Advanced Training, he undertook a Research Fellowship at Royal Perth Hospital, which led to a permanent move to Western Australia and Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2013. He now works as a Consultant Anaesthetist at Fiona Stanley and Fremantle Hospitals and is accredited as a Specialist Anaesthetist at many of Perth’s private hospitals.


Professional Interests
Dr Hillyard has a depth of experience and current practice in anaesthesia and sedation for a wide range of specialities. He has particular interest in anaesthesia for Obstetrics, Orthopaedics, and Urology as well as Regional Anaesthesia. Dr Steve Hilmi works as a Consultant Specialist Anaesthetist in Private Practice. He has travelled to Africa a number of times in recent years to donate his professional services to the Tanzanian community.

Professional Interests
Dr Hilmi joined Southern Anaesthetics in 2007 and has wide experience in anaesthesia for many specialties including gynaecological oncology, neurosurgical, orthopaedic and general surgical lists, as well as for maxillofacial surgeons and sedation procedures. Dr Hilmi also has an interest in anaesthesia for ENT (including paediatric) surgery.

Dr Claire Hinton completed her initial medical training in South Australia before moving to Western Australia where she completed her Specialist Anaesthetic qualifications in 2013.

Professional Interests
Dr Hinton’s main interests are in high-risk obstetrics, emergency management of anaesthetic crises, regional anaesthesia (including peri-orbital techniques), orthopaedic/vascular/robotic/ENT surgery and paediatric anaesthesia for children down to 12 months old.

During her training, Dr Hinton completed two fellowships. One in perioperative echocardiography and the other in obstetric anaesthesia at King Edward Memorial Hospital. She has been published in the British Journal of Anaesthesia and teaches fellow anaesthetists echocardiography at Fiona Stanley Hospital and iHeartScan in Melbourne.

Dr David Hoppe

Dr David Hoppe completed his Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery at the University of Western Australia in 2005. Upon completing internship at Fremantle Hospital, he transferred interstate to Sydney, where he completed a residency at St. Vincents Hospital in Darlinghurst. He returned to Perth to commence Anaesthesia specialty training in 2008 and was admitted as a Fellow to the College of Australia and New Zealand in 2014.

Dr Hoppe completed 2 subspecialty fellowships:

Dr Hoppe completed three fellowships in obstetrics, regional and general anaesthesia and maintains a broad scope of practice in adult and paediatric anaesthesia. After completing undergraduate studies at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, Dr Hor worked in Whangarei Hospital before entering the speciality of anaesthesia.

Anaesthetic training in Palmerston North Hospital, Auckland City Hospital, National Women's Hospital, Starship Children's Hospital and Middlemore Hospital eventually led to a fellowship in regional anaesthesia in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth.

Dr Hor is proficient in providing anaesthesia for many surgical specialities including General Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Gynaecology and sedation for Pain and Endoscopy procedures. Dr Jervis completed his training at the University of Western Australia and rotated through Perth's major teaching hospitals to obtain fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Dr Jervis underwent further sub-specialty anaesthesia training in difficult airway management and obstetric anaesthesia at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

Dr Paul Young grew up in Auckland, New Zealand and achieved his medical degree at the University of Auckland in 2000. He worked as a junior doctor in the Auckland region and completed his anaesthetic training in 2015. After working a short time in Sydney and rural NSW Paul moved to Western Australia to work as a Consultant Anaesthetist at St John of God Midland Hospital. He currently works as a Specialist Anaesthetist at SJOG Midland Hospital and at many private hospitals in Perth.

Dr Young has a wide range of interests and experience including Bariatric and General surgery, Neurosurgery, Obstetric and Gynaecology surgery, Paediatric surgery and Dental Surgery.
